History/About
An ancient citrus fruit native to Asia, Buddha’s Hand Citron is a variety of Citron, so named for its unusual appearance - mimicking an open or closed hand with outstretched ‘fingers’. Its botanical name, Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis, is derived from the Greek sarkos and dactylos meaning "fleshy finger."
The fruit isn’t eaten outright, but the highly aromatic rinds and pith are and used for flavoring foods and beverages.
It’s long been used in Asian cultures for perfumery and religious purposes, and is known to be a symbol of happiness, longevity, and good fortune.
